Week 1 Update: Countdown to Sighting (Toes, not Exits)
Each Week Pat and I will be updating our current weight situation.
We know, we know, its not all about weight!
Well that's easy for skinny people to say. For a couple guys that have tipped the scales over 300 pounds in our lives, we both take our weight pretty seriously. It is not everything. I was about 225 for both my Ironman races and I was more "fit" in 2019, but in better bike shape in 2021, but less fit, especially in the core. So we know there are degrees, but as Big Boys Wearing Spandex (or Speedos), we know this is something we have to get on top of controlling the eating:
So, Here are the Week 2 results:

Its comforting to know that BMI says Pat and I are both only Overweight and I am no longer obese (note the sarcasm). That's a huge relief because I was starting to think I'd never lose the baby fat my Mom still claims my extra weight is! Pat's goal weight of 185 which is pretty light still only gets him to 25.1 on the BMI scale, so we aren't even trying to be healthy! My goal weight is 26.2 BMI, again just a couple idiots trying to get fit, but not too fit! Its a bullshit metric that I thought I'd highlight. Rome wasn't build in a day and as you can see, our goals aren't that tough, its the losing weight AND trying to get fit that will kill you.
We will have to lose more weight/get more fit if we ever want to complete the Worlds course, that is for sure, but we are focused on the next step in the journey: SwimRun Lake James and as far as you know, water buffaloes never back down.
How do Pat and I plan to get there? We both have different methods for different bodies and lifestyles:
Pat does a Keto type diet that controls his sugar cravings and controls his carbs. He has a big time weakness for sugar, especially ice cream. He isn't a big drinker like I am. The Forrest Gump Meme is especially appropriate for Pat. I would describe his style as very much like Forrest Gump. Relentless for no reason. Why did you go so fast, Pat? Because you told me to Skav! Its really not that far from the truth!
I do the old version of Weight Watchers (Carb Conscious) that I use the Heathi app to track. While I like ice cream and sweets, beer is my favorite death by a thousand cuts. During the pandemic I was drinking at least 3-4 beers a day for most of 2020, but didn't gain any weight because there was nothing to do but workout! My daughter has been telling everyone since she was about 3 that Daddy's favorite thing is beer...lol. Keeping it under control is pretty easy though and switching to garbage light beer will make my quest more attainable.
All of this is to emphasize that this blog is about two guys with big hearts, big stomachs, and not all that many brains!
